Literacy

To improve student learning and achievement, teachers at all levels K-12 use knowledge of effective oral and written communications, reading, mathematics, and technology to facilitate and support direct instruction, active inquiry, collaboration, and positive interaction.

Why is Literacy Important?

Understanding reading and writing and being able to accurately do so is vital in elementary education. Students will use reading and writing throughout their whole life. Through my classes, in Auburn University's Elementary Education program I have been given the ability to confidently teach reading and writing. If students do not have a strong understanding of reading and writing, they will not be able to excel in other areas of learning.

ELA Tutoring

During my first semester in the elementary education program, I tutored a student weekly in reading, writing, and ELA proficiency. After each lesson, I would reflect on how the lesson went. I would particularly reflect on what went well and what aspects of the lesson could use some work.

ELA Lesson Designs

During my time while tutoring, I was able to create lessons for emergent readers,  beginning readers, growing independent and fluent readers, and reading to learn readers. The instruction is based on scientific reading and practices. Attached are all of my lesson designs.
